This link will take you to an article about a local school that’s all Gree
dn from the ground up.
Please don’t fall for the siren song of “green schools.” I wrote a comment on that article, which I reproduced below.
Don’t fall for this money grab. Building energy efficient schools is fine, but you are being set up for a rip off of monumental proportions.
1. Set up a bureaucratic standard (LEEDs)
2. Build a Demo project and if necessary, cook the books to show how it MIGHT save “10s of $1,000s over the years.”
3. Tout the savings as an excuse to ream the taxpayers with millions in debt to retrofit or tear down perfectly good schools to save a few paltry BTU’s.
4. Building contractors, architects, Bond Churning Finance Companies, and Teachers and Administrators all get rich while your property tax bill continue to skyrocket. You pay 1000s of dollars more a year so that the gas bill for a school goes down by few hundred a month.
DON’T FALL FOR IT!! Don’t be SILLY!
If and when you need a new school (you probably don’t), build it to good energy standards. You are being set up for a scam.
