Feudalism and Illinois’ Political System – Re-posting of an older post

I originally posted this last July of 2008, and I re-posted it back in January to promote a Home Rule Ballot question, but I’m re-posting it just for fun. The a Podcast that gives you an audio version of this post is a bit dated, but when you think about it, the timing is always right because Illinois is still a wonderful example of a Feudal State masquerading as a “constitutional republic.”

Here is the Podcast.

Kill the Olympics for Chicago

Ben Joravsky over at The Chicago Reader has written another opus against the worst politician in Illinois – Mayor King Richard Daley. This time, he does it by attacking the idea of bringing the Olympics to Chicago.

An Open Letter to the IOC

Here’s the fundamental problem: We can’t afford the games. We’re broke—and I mean damn near destitute. The public school system is about $475 million in the red and the city’s facing its own deficit of at least $200 million. Just a few months ago Mayor Daley said he’d balanced the budget by raising fees and fines and slashing the city payroll, but already expenses have risen and revenues have dropped faster than anticipated. His aides have warned that more cuts could be on the way.

The Chicago Transit Authority, which runs our public transportation system, is busted too, in more ways than one. CTA officials are in the thick of their annual budget crisis, warning of fare hikes and service cuts that could affect traffic in every part of town. They don’t have enough money to replace the old buses or repair the tracks that are falling apart.

Some one should do some polling to find out just how popular the Olympics are. When ‘the little people’ find out that they will foot the bill for Mayor Daley’s Galas, Groundbreaking Ceremonies, and Cocktail Parties for Limousine Liberals (some who used to be Country Club Republicans), the might just get their dander up enough to stop the idiocy.

King Obama Replaces the Duke of GM

Keeping with the general theme of politics that he learned at knees of King Richard Daley, King Barack Obama is replacing the Duke of General Motors (with whom the King is unhappy) with a new Duke to be announced later.

Government Forces Out Wagoner at GM

The Obama administration used the threat of withholding more bailout money to force out General Motors Corp. Chief Executive Rick Wagoner and administer harsh medicine to Chrysler LLC, marking one of the most dramatic government interventions in private industry since the economic crisis began last year.

The administration’s auto team announced the departure of Mr. Wagoner on Sunday. In a summary of its findings, the task force added that it doesn’t believe Chrysler is viable as a stand-alone company, and suggested that the best chance for success for both GM and Chrysler “may well require utilizing the bankruptcy code in a quick and surgical way.”

I don’t give a damn about Rich Wagoner. He is clearly an incompetent manager who ought to have been booted by any board actually interested in running GM. He also deserves getting tossed for being stupid and venal enough to take government money, when he ought to have declared bankruptcy and resigned like a man.

I also appreciate the President using his power to oust the guy because it gives us a glimpse of the world Barack wants to create – a corporate/government superstate. The “audacity” is instructive.
