Of course, I was also one of the first to say we don’t start winning back our country until we start aggressively attacking union greed.

A man’s home is his castle – Chesterton on home ownership

I’m not posting this quote to defend the over-subsidization of housing. I merely point out that hanging out in bars, drinking to excess, cheating on your spouse, and/or acting as if you are “free” is only more evidence that you are enslaved by your desires – not liberated by your autonomy.

Of all modern notions, the worst is this: that domesticity is dull. Inside the home, they say, is dead decorum and routine; outside is adventure and variety. But the truth is that the home is the only place of liberty, the only spot on earth where a man can alter arrangements suddenly, make an experiment or indulge in a whim. The home is not the one tame place in a world of adventure; it is the one wild place in a world of rules and set tasks.

Global cooling to Global warming idiocy

Editorial: Arnold’s global warming ardor cooling

Days after the state Air Resources Board touted the economic benefits of curbing greenhouse gas emissions, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger advised his climate bureaucracy to slow down the rush to impose carbon dioxide cap-and-trade regulations.

Facing growing public opposition and a well-financed ballot initiative to suspend the governor’s signature Global Warming Solutions Act, which mostly takes effect in January 2012, Mr. Schwarzenegger last week wrote to the air board, asking it to consider a less-costly approach to restricting greenhouse gas emissions.

“climate bureaucracy”

That was the goal all along. A cadre of useless toadies governing our lives.

Rationalist Ideologues

I was “lectured” a few weeks ago by my 20 year old nephew, about how he viewed the world “rationally” and not “ideologically.” Mellow guy that I am, I merely pointed out to him that everyone (and yes, that means you, too) is an ideologue, and that ‘rationalists’ were merely ideologues whose ideology was ‘rationalism.’

(something else I’m entirely correct about, BTW)

So you can imagine my delight when I came across this story about a recent event regarding a book that challenged the deity of Charles Darwin.

It is now blasphemy to criticise Darwin

Some months ago an American philosopher explained to a highly sophisticated audience in Britain what, in his opinion, was wrong, indeed fatally wrong, with the standard neo-Darwinian theory of biological evolution. He made it crystal clear that his criticism was not inspired by creationism, intelligent design or any remotely religious motivation. A senior gentleman in the audience erupted, in indignation: ‘You should not say such things, you should not write such things! The creationists will treasure them and use them against science.’ The lecturer politely asked: ‘Even if they are true?’ To which the instant and vibrant retort was: ‘Especially if they are true!’ with emphasis on the ‘especially’.

This stunning exchange exemplifies the religious fervour with which some scholars and laypersons adhere to the Darwinian doctrine. It’s a secular religion, for sure, an atheistic banner under which the white knights of scientific rationality rally in their fight against the forces of darkness. There are countless manifestations of this unwholesome religious Darwinian fervour, more than can be listed here. It happened more than once to my co-author, Jerry Fodor, and myself, as we put the finishing touches to an essay entitled ‘What Darwin Got Wrong’ (now just published by Profile Books). We were asked if we were completely out of our minds. Some friends and colleagues did this in a protective mood, agreeing with what we say but anticipating (rightly it turns out) a volley of very unpleasant reactions.

You rationalists are so mundane and predictable. You have nothing on us ideologues. At least we know who and what we are. You think you “know” everything, and yet don’t even know yourselves.

The ultimate joke is that you call yourselves “reality-based.” What a charade you are.

When Humor = Truth

As you read the article below, think of Daley’s “privatization” of the Parking Meters. He’s way ahead of the Onion.

City Of Chicago To Modernize Outdated Graft Programs

CHICAGO—In an effort to streamline unethical practices and boost illegal profiteering, Mayor Richard M. Daley announced sweeping new plans Monday to overhaul his city’s “antiquated” system of graft.

According to Daley, Chicago’s once-great fraudulent institutions have grown obsolete, and City Hall is no longer bilking taxpayers out of as much money as it once did.

“It’s been business as usual for too long in Chicago, and now it’s time to find more efficient ways to misuse authority for personal gain,” said Daley, who has served as Chicago’s mayor since 1989. “We must modernize our illegitimate activities right now, today, before it becomes impossible for public officials to act in my best self-interests.”

Telling City Council members it was inexcusable that Chicago still used such outdated methods as pen and pencil to falsify financial records and conceal kickbacks, Daley called for the purchase of some 10,000 overpriced computers, which he said would allow the city to digitize no-bid contracts, electronically transfer misappropriated funds, and keep better track of who’s on the take.

If you debate them, you will beat them

A few nights ago, an organization called “Intelligence Squared” put on a debate. The proposition presented was…

“DON’T BLAME TEACHERS UNIONS FOR OUR FAILING SCHOOLS”

Yes means you support that statement, no means you blame teachers unions. The good guys literally wiped the floor with the bad guys.

PRE-DEBATE VOTE:
FOR: 24% AGAINST: 43% UNDECIDED: 33%
POST-DEBATE VOTE:
FOR: 25% AGAINST:68% UNDECIDED: 7%

As of this moment, I have not watched the debate, but wanted to post it for you. I encourage you all to start challenging every single one of your “pro-union” friends to an open debate. If you aren’t confident of the outcome, contact me, and I’ll make myself available.

If you engage them, in front of an intellectually honest and engaged audience, they can’t win.

It’s nice to be 4-5 years ahead of one’s time

You can do a lot of damage with a pension guarantee clause, a profligate legislature, and greedy public employee unions to buy unsustainable levels of pensions and payroll. It’s been years since I’ve started telling people that pensions would soon crowd out nearly all other public spending.

The media is finally catching on.

It’s good to see friend Lennie nail the issue.

The Grotesque Chicago-ization of the United States Government

Most of you have heard that Arne Duncan, formerly Chicago’s school Czar and now America’s school Czar, tours the country talking about reform while his hypocrite boss shuts down the DC voucher program.

Like the late night TV ads, I can only say “but wait, there’s more!!”

Heritage put out a very good piece detailing yet another example of “The Chicago Way” at Duncan’s former home.

____

Morning Bell: Choice for the Powerful, But Not for the People

But now we find out that when Secretary Duncan was CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, he took a decidedly different approach to the wishes of Chicago’s politically powerful families. The Chicago Tribune reported yesterday that while he was Chicago schools chief, Secretary Duncan maintained a log of politicians and influential business people who sought better placement for their children in Chicago’s public schools. From the Tribune:

It includes 25 aldermen, Mayor Richard Daley’s office, House Speaker Michael Madigan, his daughter Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, former White House social secretary Desiree Rogers and former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun.

The skank-like lack of morality of these people knows no bounds. They should disgust you. They sit and talk about the poor as they shower their campaign contributors with rich benefits and contracts, all while retaining the best jobs, slots, and political gems for themselves.

They deserve nothing but contempt and outrage. They are bad people.
